LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

Cartoon characters come to life through acting—and acting, at its core, means movement. This is why the line of action (an imaginary line that extends through a figure and indicates the curve of its movement) is one of the most important factors in bringing your characters to life on paper. All living things move around in one way or another, and even plants and animals tend to have a bend or curve to their movement. In most characters, the line of action starts at the head, travels down the spine, and flows out at either the hands or the feet.
