3.   Grow

If you’ve ever studied weight training, you know that the way to build muscles is to push them beyond their limits, to the point at which the fibers actually tear, because the healing will make them grow stronger. That technique applies to more than just muscles.

We grow only when we push ourselves and keep pushing until we feel the pain; we then recover—only to push ourselves some more. To exceed our current level of ability or experience in any sphere, we have to move out of our comfort zone into the unknown. And in doing so, we increase the risk of making mistakes and getting hurt. That’s why the key to growth is embracing the unknown, working through mistakes, and tolerating pain.

Of course, it is pointless to venture into the unknown ...
