Claude Heiniger was an instructor at a flight school located in Lausanne Blécherette, Switzerland. On January 29, 2001, he was on a flight with a trainee who had 1,300 hours of flight experience. As the plane took off, a locking pin from the right hand side landing gear fell from the aircraft, crippling the mechanism. Now airborne, Claude came to the conclusion that they would have to land the plane without properly functioning landing gear.
