2.9. ASSIGNMENT

Parameters and Picture Styles

Parameters and Picture Styles give you the ability to customize your images for a particular look or feel you are after in your work. While you can certainly shoot a photo in color and then convert it to black and white or sepia later in your digital studio, which provides a lot of flexibility, sometimes actually shooting in that mode has an effect on how you compose and think about your images as you're taking them. For example, try shooting an image in black and white and then the same image in color. Or, try the sepia tone effect. Choose the Picture Style or Parameter whose effect you like the best and post and image using that style and briefly explain your preference.

Here you see a landscape image from Great Smoky Mountains National Park with the Landscape Picture Style applied. This Picture Style emphasizes overall color balance throughout the image, instead of color correction. Notice how the image's contrast, color tone (hue), and color density (saturation) are well balanced between the road, trees, vegetation, and sky. Taken with an EOS-1Ds Mark II, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L lens, ISO 400, 1/3 second at f/32.
