Not all portraits are shot with the subject sitting in a chair, posed and ready for the photo. Occasionally you might want to capture an action shot of an individual in order to best represent who they are or what kind of work they do.

For the photo in Figure 5.13, I set my camera to Shutter Priority mode because I knew there would be a good deal of movement involved. I wanted to make sure I could freeze the action, so I set the shutter speed to 1/2000 of a second. I used the AI Servo focus mode to track my subject as he moved down the river, and I set the drive mode to Continuous shooting so I could take a number of images in rapid succession, increasing my chances of getting the shot.
