In CAD programs there are different tools and methods that can be used to create exactly the same outcome. Taking the example of a box, you can create this directly, extrude it from a square, or presspull it with the Presspull tool. This choice is important as inevitably things will go wrong and not work! Computer modelling by its very nature is temperamental. The ability to try it a different way, such as directly creating a 3D solid rather than extruding it, is key to efficient development.
