This chapter explains the basic operation and application of essential fiber-optic test equipment. The basic theory, operation, and application of each piece of test equipment will be explained. Many of the test methods described in this chapter are based on current industry standards. How to test to these standards is described in detail.
At the time of this writing, the ANSI/TIA-568 standard was under revision. ANSI/TIA-568-B.3 had been replaced with ANSI/TIA-568-C.3. However, ANSI/TIA-B.1 and B.2 had not been replaced. This chapter focuses on the ANSI/TIA-568 standards that were available for purchase.
