This is a chapter about cable television in Australia, when in fact, Australia does not have cable television, nor is there any immediate or apparent plans to introduce cable television. However, during 1980-82, a major inquiry into this question was conducted by the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal, the major controlling body in Australian broadcasting.

This chapter will be concerned with two matters. First, a description of the Tribunal's Inquiry into cable television and radiated subscription television services; and, second, reasons will be offered for the state of repose on the cable television issue.
