Chapter 25
Technical Specifications
Technical specifications are reports that define important technical terms and describe characteristics and processes in a way that a non-technical audience can understand. Often, such reports are provided by contractors to explain what they did when they completed a project, or in advance of the project as a planning tool. When a project is in progress, workers and supervisors will be able to evaluate initial findings and make any necessary adjustments. When explaining a process, it is important to give examples and to define your terms. If supervisors know what goes into making a decision, they are more likely to be pleased with the result and to trust you to use your best judgment.
