Rethinking the Approach

In this step, the renewal team discovers and creates ways of addressing performance gaps and opportunities, with the intent of achieving the vision, expectations, and business performance identified in the Vision phase (refer to Chapter 12). This step combines the new ideas discovered in benchmarking processes and studying technology enablers and trends and then encourages new ideas by relaxing or eliminating existing constraints discovered in the Understand phase (refer to Chapter 13). The project changes its focus at this point from analysis to synthesis.
