The history and purpose of NVQs

National Vocational Qualifications and the equivalent Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) have been with us since the late-1980s. The 1986 government White Paper ‘Working Together: Education and Training’ led to the formation of the National Council for Vocational Qualifications (NCVQ), recently replaced by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), to create and operate the NVQ system.
