Summary and Conclusions

In this chapter, I introduced the business model concept, distinguished it from strategy, and introduced three different business model lenses that can help you focus on specific elements of your value creation and capture system. I argued that the development of a business model should be based on strategic thinking, and that you can build differentiators into your model to set it apart from others. I also argued that the business model by itself is not strategy. It is both the foundation for your strategy and a reflection of your strategy-making processes. Finally, I introduced four business model tests that must be passed if your model is to generate value for you and your customers.
