Chapter 3. Defining BI Technologies

In Chapter 2 we described how BI platforms enable organizations to bridge the analysis gap between the data that their operational systems collect and the information that business decision makers require. When a company decides to implement a BI platform, there are choices that need to be made regarding the type of platform that will be constructed and the specific tools and technologies that will be used to convert raw data into useful information. While decisions such as these typically fall into the realm of information technology (IT) professionals, businesspeople need to actively participate in these decisions to make sure that a company's BI platform adequately supports its analysis needs.
