Abstract

Data integration activities are the most time- and resource-consuming portion of building an enterprise business intelligence (BI) environment. Using data integration tools, in particular extract, transform, and load (ETL) tools has been the best practice in BI for more than a decade, but manually coded extracts are still the mainstay of the industry. The current generation of tools consists of full-fledged data integration suites that include ETL, real-time integration, message streaming, Web services, complex event processing, and data virtualization functionality.
