Big Data

Big data is an umbrella term for a collection of data sets so large and complex that it becomes difficult to process them using traditional data management tools. There has been increasing democratization of the process of content creation and sharing over the Internet, using social media applications. The combination of cloud-based storage, social media applications, and mobile access devices is helping crystallize the big data phenomenon. The leading management consulting firm, McKinsey & Co. created a flutter when it published a report in 2011 showing the impact of such big data on organizations.
