The Value of Business Intelligence

In spite of the continuous drumming of the idea of considering “data as an asset,” it would still be rare for data or information to appear as a line item on a corporate financial balance sheet with specific monetary amounts tied to its value and/or associated costs. Some experts might try to convince you to treat information as an asset, but what does that really mean?

From a practical standpoint, it might instead be worth examining information use in the context of how value is created within an organization. We might simply look at three different perspectives on information value versus use:
