Line of Business PMOs: The Ubiquitous Nature of Project Management
Far too often many project management offices (PMOs) and those in the project management community take an inward view of project management. They view project management as a professional practice limited to those who have been formally trained and work in a formal project management organization. The cartoon in Figure 11.1 sheds light on a common PMO oversight; the ubiquitous nature of project management. It is everywhere. To assume that projects outside of the parameters of the strategic project office or formal PMO are simply informal and unimportant endeavors is a gross oversight and misunderstanding of the value to the organization of such efforts.
