Effective planning is vital to staying one step ahead of business competitors and disrupting incidents. At the heart of business continuity (BC) is the BC plan itself, although in most cases what we call your BC plan in fact comprises a series of small plans joined together. In this chapter we look at recording the strategic information that you produce from Chapter 7 in a way that makes things easier during the pressurised time of a disruption. We describe BC plans in detail – including why you need one and how to prepare for it – and we lead you through creating and developing a plan tailored to your business.

remember.eps Keep your plan simple. For each piece of information that you’re considering putting in, ask yourself: ‘Is this going to help during a disruption?’ If the answer is no, leave that information out. Your BC plan needs to be a useful tool and not exist simply for the sake of saying that you have one.
