In this chapter, we lead you through the process of constructing a coherent business continuity (BC) strategy. A BC strategy is the response that your business puts in place to make sure that pre-identified critical activities continue functioning even during a disruption. (To identify your critical activities, flip to Chapter 4.)

We talk you through collecting the various elements that you glean from Chapters 4 to 6 and help you decide on the right continuity strategy. The process that we use in this chapter also suggests two separate sets of considerations – tactical and general – as well as a check before finalising your decisions.

Choosing the strategy that’s right for your business is vital, and so in this chapter we introduce some different types that can support your critical activities. You can decide what’s most appropriate for your business (also check out the nearby sidebar ‘BC should never stand still’).
