93. B.A.M. Lists

August 2006 was a dark month in our company history. Our work had piled up faster than we were able to staff against it. Our young team of designers and programmers were tasting something at our company that we had not yet experienced: brutally long work hours. The team dubbed this month “Black August.”

Most successful agencies have horror stories of frantic all-nighters, racing to hit looming deadlines. Our agency has been in a constant battle to solve this notorious problem and its associated issues: How do you staff up fast enough to manage spikes in the production load, and how do you reduce overhead when the spike is over?
