55. Friendly Updates

Doctors seem to understand something that many graphic designers don’t: the need for “friendly updates.”

Imagine, if you will, a beautiful happy family: a dad, a mom, and a few kids. This unfortunate family learns that dad has a heart problem and needs to have a major surgery. The whole family heads to the hospital together on the day of the surgery. They meet together with the doctor who reassures them that his team knows what they are doing; they have done this surgery thousands of times. The family sighs in relief, feeling like everything is going to be “OK.” Dad is wheeled off into the operating room and the rest of the family gathers closely together in the waiting room. The clock watching begins.
