Abstract and Objectives

Many companies are jumping onto the wireless bandwagon by creating new “first mile” infrastructure in order to link to customers who do not yet have high-speed Internet access. They may also create this infrastructure to bypass the current wired solutions—it is often cheaper and easier to provide high-speed data to customers via a wireless link.

These are good ideas, but many Internet companies have little or no clue about the ramifications of using unlicensed spectrum. My purpose in writing this paper is to shed a little light on the law, policy, rules, regulations, and future developments that will affect wireless deployment.
