Setting up the ExpressionEngine database

If you are using a shared hosting server or a dedicated web server, your host may have provided you with a limited number of MySQL databases which are already established for you. In that case, you do not need to follow this section to set up a database from scratch. Instead, your hosting provider will have provided you with the following:

  1. The MySQL database name
  2. The MySQL server address
  3. The MySQL username and password

If you are using WampServer, XAMPP, MAMP, or if your host allows you to create your own databases, you will require phpMyAdmin to create a database for ExpressionEngine. phpMyAdmin is a free MySQL database management tool, providing the ability to create, drop, and manage MySQL databases.
