Barrier 2: Competition

There is nothing wrong with a little healthy competition among teams in an organization. There is competition to be the best team; to get to the market faster; to have the best safety record; to achieve the highest customer satisfaction rating; to produce the highest sales in the region; or to solve a complex problem that has frustrated others in the organization.

However, if a team tries to achieve a goal at the expense of another team, that is unhealthy competition. For example, if a team seeks to be the best by withholding valuable customer information or market data from others in the organization, that is unhealthy and counterproductive. Unhealthy competition can stand in the way of healthy collaboration.
