8.6. Summary
Regular expressions let your users define patterns of characters. Any pattern of text is a language, so regular expressions form a metalanguage—a language for defining languages. Despite the word regular, there is no standard for how to parse regular expressions. You can craft a regular expression parser to meet the needs of your users.
