Part Three. Promoting Adaptive Expertise and Motivation

ECONOMIC COMPETITIVENESS increasingly relies on adaptive expertise—expertise that grows from flexible and creative thinking skills. The highest forms of expertise are based on a multi-year sustained effort of deliberate practice. To maintain the discipline to reach high levels of expertise, the performer must have the motivation to initiate and persist in focused regiments of practice. In Section III, I review research and guidelines related to the building of thinking skills and on support of motivation leading to persistence in achieving performance goals.
