Understanding DNS

We now have a domain name and a VPS, so it's time to associate them with each other. But first, we need to briefly explain how the DNS works.

The following overview is a simplification of the domain name resolution process. For brevity's sake, many details are left out. For a full interrogation of the process, please check out my blog post, Resolving Domain Names, which you can find at blog.danyll.com/resolving-domain-names/.

The job of the DNS is to resolve fully qualified domain names (FQDNs) into IP addresses.
