Defining the Goals of MyGolfGear.NET

Before my coauthor and I could start building or even designing our application, we needed to decide the site's goals. On the highest level, we had to decide whether MyGolfGear.NET would migrate an existing site or be a startup. If we had already owned and operated a brick-and-mortar golf shop, we might have wanted to divert some offline sales to the Internet in an attempt to lower administrative costs. Because MyGolfGear.NET was built specifically for this book and wasn't based on an existing site or an existing brick-and-mortar store, approaching the design as though it was a startup was pretty easy.
