As a .NET developer, you must run a server-like operating system: Windows NT (sp6a), 2000, XP, or another operating system. If you plan to develop Web-based applications, you should also ensure that IIS is installed. When you run the setup program to install Visual Studio .NET, the installation process first checks whether it needs to install any of the necessary runtime files for the .NET Framework.
