Case Study 4: Private Database as a Service
The DBAs at Maximus are weary of waiting for resources to create databases for load testing. Each time they ask for a database environment, whether single instance or Real Application Clusters (RAC), they are provided a VM. This has two major problems. First, the VM environment does not represent their production environment, which is on an Exadata appliance, and hence this type of load testing serves little purpose. Second, all the individual DBAs have to keep their database stack patched on their own. They are looking for a database platform on which they can create databases and use them for load testing. There is some spare capacity in a half-rack Exadata that can be used for this.
