osCommerce has a deal that’s hard to refuse — you can download its osCommerce software for zero dollars with no limits, no time constraints, no nothing. It’s open source software, which means that not only is it free, but you also get to play with the source code and change it to suit yourself. Ah, yes, that’s the catch. If you’re not a PHP programmer or don’t have one on staff, you may get in a bit over your head with this software; if you are or do, however, you can download this software at www.oscommerce.com.
Still, even without custom modifications, using this package is a worthwhile way to get your store up and running. It handles everything from creating product pages to managing shipping and just about anything that you can imagine in between. It’s easy to use, too. Figure 21-6 shows a demo catalog made with osCommerce.
