If you don’t already have a Web site or if you’re unhappy with your current Web space provider, you have several options. You can run your own Web server, of course. With a DSL connection and Linux, it’s even possible to put together a creditable setup in your own home. But that’s a lot of work — ask network administrators just how much leisure time they have. And many broadband providers have policies forbidding you from doing it, anyway.
If you want to focus on developing and maintaining your site, your best bet is to leave the day-to-day grunge work of keeping the server up and running to someone else.
Practically every Web hosting provider offers all sorts of extended services in addition to plain Web space. These often include some form of e-commerce hosting, ranging from simply supplying the software to setting up a complete turnkey solution for you.
