Dealing with poor performance

For those who manage others, this is a classic. I am sure you do not surround yourself with incompetents, but over time and with a number of people reporting to you, this does crop up. Indeed, it may do so simply as a result of change: jobs move on, demand new things and suddenly someone is not doing what is really required of him or her any more.
