4.13 Routers and Matrices

 

 

 

4.13.1 Routing: an Overview

A router, or routing switcher, can be thought of in the simplest terms as a grid comprising a number of inputs and outputs, or sources and destinations, as shown in Figure 4.13.1. Points within the grid where the input and output lines intersect are known as crosspoints and provide the switch enabling the required router input, when controlled correctly, to be connected to the selected output.
