This book is based on research results obtained by our research group, the Photonics and Networking Research Laboratory at Stanford University. Our research on broadband fiber access networks, conducted over a decade or so, required a consistent effort by a large group of exceptionally talented graduate students, postdocs, and visitors. Some of these contributors are co-authors of the book, while others are working in other organizations and on other projects and so were too busy to help with the book-writing process.
