Chapter 12. PRINCIPLE #12: GET THE BOARD ON BOARD

No discussion of the executive can be complete without paying attention to what is happening at the board level. The board is an integral part of the organizational system and, therefore, it must also act in ways that reflect the changing landscape and shifting paradigms. Unless the board and the senior executive team are closely aligned, problems are inevitable. Most executives wouldn't conceive of their direct reports working on something of which they had no knowledge, but they would, I hope, listen with openness and interests if these individuals presented a compelling business case for paying attention to a new venture.
