Foreword

The web browser is my favorite application. As the Internet has evolved from sites of static text and images to a landscape of powerful Rich Internet Applications and experiences, I’m surprised that the browser icon on my desktop doesn’t have wear marks from daily double-clicking.

Today, if I navigate to my preferred auction site, I can search for and check on the status of an item for sale. I can dig into the details of the item to see if it was paid for, and I can explore even deeper to check the shipping status with the carrier.

When using our web-based customer management application, I can see the IM status of both coworkers and a number of customers. I can even click into a contact record to initiate a quick videoconference with someone ...
