Tier 3—Security Consultant

Abstract

The independent security consultant’s role is to be the smart person in the room. You must know when to lead others as the smart person and when to guide other people, allowing them to be the smart ones in front of their co-workers. Knowing the difference is often learned from failure. There is endless negotiation, continual reassessment, and project lengths in years rather than days or months. Independent consultants must line up new projects while working on existing ones, bill time, and sometimes work on many emergencies at the same time.
