Erase, Then Replace

IT IS TIME TO ADDRESS SOMETHING few businesses do, yet alone talk about. I am about to tell you why you should never hesitate to fire a client. The idea of firing a client leaves many in shock. I suppose that's because it seems to go against what we are trying to accomplish in business. It's a hard paradigm shift for some because they never want to turn away the chance to make money.

Bad clients will cost you. They will do far more harm than good, regardless of how much money you stand to make from them. Trust me when I say that some clients are just not worth the effort.

Whoever said “the customer is always right” is an idiot. That would only be true if all customers were perfect. Your customers are human, and no one is perfect. Not all customers are created equal. We need a new phrase that says “sometimes the customer is a douchebag.”

Early in my real estate career, I had a horrible client. Let's call him Satan. I received a phone call from Satan asking me to come out to his home and talk with him about putting it up for sale. During my sales presentation, Satan was a little rude but nothing worth me getting terribly upset about. I listed his home and crossed my fingers for a fast sale. As luck would have it, the very next day after his home went on the market, we received a full-price offer! I felt like a hero and quickly thought I must be the greatest agent of all time.
