Many Shades of You

“IT'S NOT PERSONAL, IT'S BUSINESS.” What a huge joke this quote is. I'm not sure who originally said it, but he or she is wrong. Unless you're reading this in the year 2452, you are a person. Everything is personal because it's people we are doing business with.

We like it when businesses and people show their personality. It adds a human element that far too many businesses are lacking. A little personality goes a long way, so feel free to let your hair down.

People do business with people. People they know, like, and trust. They especially buy stuff from those they like. People enjoy spending time with people they like and people who are like them. There is nothing new about that. But brands with no personality fail to realize that people buy from people they like.

Putting your personality into your marketing and business isn't just about getting people to warm up to you. It's a strategy that you have to act on if you want to survive.

The only difference between you and your competition is your brand.

Anyone can copy your website or knock off your product or service. They can steal your brand colors and can rip off your content. There is only one element of your brand competitors can never copy. They cannot copy you.

Anyone can copy what you do, but few can copy how you do it.

You are your biggest advantage in business. What you sell may not be one of a kind, but you are. You create the value for people, not your business name or fancy logo.
