Chapter 5. Making a Splash with Fluids

One of the most important reasons to use simulations in 3D work is to obtain effects that would be extremely difficult or impossible by using only "traditional" methods of mesh modeling and keyframe animation. The case of free-flowing fluids is a good example of this. Earlier in the book, you saw how some simple liquid effects could be obtained by using various mesh modifiers and metaballs. However, these methods have their limitations for representing fluids. In this chapter, I talk about Blender's fluid simulator, a powerful system capable of animating a wide variety of free-flowing fluid situations much more realistically than could be done by hand.
