CHAPTER 5Dreaming

We are hardwired to dream. Every moment is a desperate fight to keep our attention in the present. A half second of distraction shifts our mind to neutral and kicks on the “daydream.” For a few moments—even a few minutes—we are lost in our own world. You’ve probably seen high-powered executives tune out in the middle of meetings, snatching a moment to romp in the playground of their own thoughts.

Although we chastise ourselves for dreaming too much, it’s essential for business success. Everything of value in our world started at some point with an idle daydream. Dreaming helps us connect the dots. Dreaming is mandatory for seeing the world as it should be rather than how it is.
