Design Guidelines
As I sat and thought about what to place in “Design Guidelines,” I could not decide where to stop. Notice that I did not say “where to begin.” Entire books are written on design patterns for J2EE implementation. In fact, I think I own at least five on that single topic, let alone all the other books with that topic included. The problem with so much material on a subject is that it’s difficult to know what is important and what is extraneous. I have seen two extreme reactions to these principles. First, design principles are used regardless of whether they fit or not—just for the sheer fact that someone wants to use them.
