As discussed in the preceding chapter, Java servlets are an effective technology for the development and delivery of dynamic Web-based applications. Many Web sites consist mostly of textual documents such as HTML pages interspersed with dynamic content generated as needed. A drawback of using servlets as the infrastructure for the dynamic content for the Web site is the requirement to translate many of the design and static aspects into Java code.
