GSM, CDMA, and TDMA

These are the primary technologies used as the transport for mobile phones, and they are often referred to as 2G because they embody the second generation of mobile communications networks (1G being analog service). Most networks in the United States are based on CDMA or TDMA, whereas most of the rest of the world relies on GSM.
