What Is a Component?

Components are the building blocks developers use to design the user interface and provide some non-visual capability to their applications. As far as applications developers are concerned, a component is something developers get from the Component Palette and place on their forms. From there, they can manipulate the various properties and add event handlers to give the component a specific appearance or behavior. From the perspective of a component writer, components are objects in Object Pascal code.
