Summary

This chapter provided best practices and recommendations for managing the on-disk OS image. It included recommendations and procedures for installing, maintaining, and patching the Solaris OE with or without an LVM managing the boot disk.

This chapter outlined the installation of the Solaris OE and provided an overview of the Solaris OE product-package clustering mechanism. Additionally, this chapter examined Sun patch naming and classification conventions, as well as presented recommendations for patch maintenance. Further, it introduced the tools used to manage and maintain patches (Sun Patch Check and PatchPro Expert). The use of LU for patch maintenance was also discussed.
