Summary

The Solaris 8 OE requires multiple CDs for installation. A new Java technologybased installation procedure, Solaris Web Start software, simplifies installation, but has a different boot disk layout than JumpStart software or interactive installation. This chapter discussed these changes and recommended a boot disk layout for desktop and small workgroup servers.

Additionally, this chapter referenced information that can be found in the Sun BluePrint JumpStart Technology: Effective Use in the Solaris Operating Environment, the Solaris 8 Operating Environment Advanced Installation Guide, the Solaris Live Upgrade 2.0 Guide, and the boot (1M), eeprom (1M), swap (1M), prtvtoc (1M), and luupgrade (1M) man pages.
