OPTIONS FOR PURCHASING BONDS

Once you have learned about bond basics and reviewed the vast number of bond choices, you are ready to make decisions on how to invest your funds in bonds. Basically, you have two choices: you can purchase individual bonds or buy them packaged together as funds.

When you purchase individual bonds, you get to select the specific characteristics of the bonds that you wish to own. The question, of course, is how do you buy them? You can purchase Treasury securities, including U.S. savings bonds directly from Treasury Direct.gov or from many commercial banks. Or you can check out sources of information on the Internet, for municipal and corporate bonds, before talking to brokers.
