A Question of Fit

We believe that the concept of the universal chief executive is as misleading as the idea that a gifted athlete should be able to excel at more than one position on the sports field or even several kinds of fields. Strategic fit between a candidate and the shoes to be filled is the crux. Gauging that calls for a vital focus on two facets:

Leadership requirements: What are the two or three most critical requirements for executive leadership given the company’s expected competitors and future opportunities?

Candidate capabilities: What are the two or three most distinctive leadership talents the candidate has demonstrated?
